On June 20, Ningde Times confirmed to Reuters that it would invest US $1.4 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 10.024 billion yuan) to cooperate with the Bolivian government to develop the country's salt lake lithium resources and build two lithium salt processing plants.

Bolivia has the richest lithium resources in salt lakes in the world, with an estimated 21 million tons, accounting for nearly 1/4 of the world's total reserves. However, due to technical, environmental, political and other factors, the salt lake lithium resources in the country have not been effectively developed and utilized. The cooperation between the Ningde era and the Bolivian government will help break the deadlock, bring economic and social benefits to Bolivia, and provide a stable and low-cost source of lithium raw materials for the Ningde era.

It is reported that the Ningde era will extract lithium from two salt lakes in Bolivia, Uyuni and Oruro, and build two lithium salt processing plants there, which can produce up to 25000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate a year. The two plants will open as early as July, and total investment in follow-up projects is expected to increase to about $9.9 billion by 2028.

Ningde Times is the largest power battery manufacturer in China and even in the world, and its products are widely used in new energy vehicles, energy storage, 3C and other fields. In order to ensure the toughness and safety of the upstream raw material supply chain, Ningde era has been actively laying out the global battery mineral resources and materials. In addition to the Bolivian salt lake project, Ningde era also has lithium-bearing porcelain clay and hard rock lithium ore projects in Jiangxi and Sichuan, jointly invested in the construction of the whole industry chain project from laterite nickel mining, smelting, ternary materials to batteries in Indonesia, and obtained the mining license for the phosphate ore project in Guizhou.

Analysts believe that with the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle market, the demand for lithium and other battery raw materials will continue to rise in the future, while the supply side may face uncertainty and volatility. Therefore, in the Ningde era, it is in line with its long-term development strategy and the concept of sustainable development to obtain scarce resources through self-made mining, investment, joint venture and cooperation, and to realize the recycling of resources through recycling.
