CTOnews.com, June 20 (Xinhua)-- SPACE10, a research and design laboratory owned by Swedish furniture giant Ikea, recently launched a next-generation sofa designed by AI, which aims to introduce environmentally friendly and portable concepts and change people's perception of traditional sofas.
In the project, SPACE10 partnered with another design company, Panter&Tourron, to use generative AI such as Runway and Midjourney to get rid of traditional sofa design. They gradually guided AI to design the sofa by entering keywords such as "platform", "lightweight" and "sustainable".
The ▲ SPACE10 sofa, named "Couch in an Envelope (sofa in envelopes)", weighs only 10 kilograms in a lightweight, flexible and modular design and is successfully crammed into a square envelope.
Traditional sofa materials and components are difficult to recycle, and eventually can only be landfill, which has a negative impact on the environment. SPACE10 hopes to "research and design an innovative solution to address some of the key social changes that will affect humanity and the planet in the future". As a result, the sofa uses a fully recyclable lightweight aluminum frame and a fully biodegradable fiber material.
▲ source SPACE10 in terms of ease of use, the sofa can be assembled and disassembled without any tools, and the lighter selection of materials makes the sofa easy to distribute and transport. Due to the modular design, users can combine multiple units, remove the backrest or assemble them into a flat bed.
