CTOnews.com June 20 news, BMW Group recently announced that the new 5 Series sedan (including electric version of the i5) in Germany to obtain semi-automatic driving certification at 130 km/h conditions, thus becoming the first German Federal Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA) approval of the car.

BMW introduced that at speeds of up to 130 km/h, the new 5 Series Highway Assist System supports automatic steering in addition to controlling speed and distance. With both hands off the steering wheel, the driver only needs to check the rearview mirror with his eyes to activate the automatic lane change function. With the help of the active lane change assist system, the car will adjust the steering operation and driving speed required for overtaking in the range of 60-180 km/h.

To ensure safety, the new 5 Series attention-monitoring camera checks in real time whether the driver is ready to immediately switch to manual driving. BMW also said that the new 5 Series can also be connected to the BMW Cloud in real time via 5G networks, better collaborating with the latest generation of cameras, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors equipped with cars, accurately displaying route trajectories and always maintaining synchronization with high-precision GPS.

CTOnews.com previously reported that BMW released a new eighth-generation 5-Series standard axle version at the end of May, including a fuel version and an all-electric version of the i5, which is also BMW's first all-electric version of the 5-Series. The new car will be launched globally in October this year, and the extended domestic version is expected to continue to be introduced in the domestic market, which is expected to be put into production as early as January 2024.
