CTOnews.com, June 20 (Xinhua) Microsoft plans to replace its existing Windows mail and calendar application with a new version of Outlook, but it was opposed by Microsoft 365 users and had to re-evaluate the timing and manner of the change.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Microsoft posted a notice on its Microsoft message center over the weekend that it plans to start replacing Windows mail and calendar apps with a new version of Outlook in September 2024. However, the notice caused dissatisfaction among some users who thought the change was too sudden and did not give them enough time to adapt. Some even speculate that the change may suggest that Microsoft will launch the Windows 12 operating system in 2024 and use the new version of Outlook as the default email and calendar app.

In the face of user protests, Microsoft quickly revised the notice, saying it was re-evaluating the timing and implementation of the change and would provide more information as soon as possible. Microsoft thanks users for their patience and understanding.

It is reported that the new version of Outlook, an application developed by Microsoft to unify its mail and calendar services on different platforms, will support any e-mail account without paying for a subscription to Microsoft 365. At present, the new version of Outlook is available free of charge on the Mac platform. Microsoft said that once the transition from email and calendar apps to the new version of Outlook is completed, the original apps will no longer be available for download.
