In terms of country, China surpassed the United States to the top of the list for the first time in the field of natural science. Six of the top 10 research institutions are from China.

The latest list counts the number of papers published by research institutions in 82 natural science journals in 2022. In terms of countries, China rose to first place from second place last year, while the United States fell to second place, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Frank Franken Peeters, CEO of Springer Nature Group, has previously said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua that in the early 1980s, less than 1 per cent of articles in the company's flagship journal Nature involved Chinese authors, and now the proportion is more than 15 per cent.
