Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com June 19 news, according to The Elec report, BOE, TCL Huaxing, Visionox, Tianma micro and other four Chinese panel companies filed a patent invalidation trial against Samsung Display in the United States, which is seen as a response by Chinese panel manufacturers to Samsung Display's request to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to stop importing Chinese-made OLED panels on the grounds of patent infringement.

▲ Source: TCL Huaxing reported that four major Chinese panel manufacturers, including BOE, TCL Huaxing, Tianma and Visionox, applied for patent invalidation (IPR) to the US Patent Judge (PTAB) at the same time on June 9. As of press time, patent judges had not yet decided whether to initiate a mistrial. The report pointed out that for at least one of the multiple claims for a patent for which a mistrial was filed, mistrial proceedings would be initiated if "a reasonable possibility of an invalid claim being accepted" was established.

▲ Source: Visionox CTOnews.com noted that Samsung Display Director Yu Jingyi stressed at the Korean Intellectual Property Conference that Japanese Sharp had an overwhelming advantage over Samsung in terms of technology, patents, R & D, etc. The number of LCD panel patents was more than five times that of Samsung, but missed the best time to initiate patent litigation against Samsung, and finally Samsung only paid Sharp a low patent fee. Yu Jingyi said that Samsung will not repeat Sharp's mistakes.

▲ Source: Tianma U.S. Commercial Patent Database pointed out in the report that BOE surpassed its old rival Samsung Display with 2195 patents in 2022, becoming the panel manufacturer with the most patents in the United States that year, followed by Samsung Display with 1975 patents granted. Shortly thereafter, Samsung Display asked the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to stop importing infringing Chinese-made OLED panels on the grounds of patent infringement.
