In countries that vigorously develop electric vehicles, charging piles are also increasing.

Data from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Environment in May show that the number of electric vehicle charging piles in South Korea has increased significantly in recent years, and now there are more than 240000.

Foreign media reported on Sunday local time that the number of electric vehicle charging piles in South Korea had exceeded 240000, citing data from South Korea's Ministry of Land and Transport and South Korea's Ministry of Environment.

However, foreign media also mentioned in the report that 240000 is just electric vehicle charging piles that have been registered with relevant institutions, and there may be more charging piles in South Korea considering the unregistered parts.

According to the published data, the number of electric vehicle charging piles in South Korea has increased significantly in the past two years. They had only 330 charging piles in 2015 and more than 100000 in 2021.

South Korean data show that of the 240695 electric vehicle charging piles currently installed in South Korea, 10.6 per cent are fast charging piles.

In terms of distribution, of the more than 240000 charging piles in South Korea, Gyeonggi Province has the largest number, with 60873, accounting for more than 1/4; Seoul has 42619; and the southeastern port city of Busan has 13370.

In terms of the ratio to electric vehicles, Seoul and Gyeonggi Province have an average of 0.66 and 0.67 charging posts per electric vehicle, while Sejong has 0.85, which has the highest proportion.
