CTOnews.com, June 19 (Xinhua)-- BMW has unveiled a number of BMW i5 "art cars" at Art Basel 2023. The biggest feature of these models is that the body, as a dynamic canvas, is projected on a series of abstract paintings generated by AI, which officials call the "ultimate AI masterpiece."

CTOnews.com noted that the exhibition, entitled "The Electric AI Canvas (Electronic AI canvas)", developed customized AI-generated animations through the collaboration of Goodby Silverstein&Partners Technical Director Nathan Shipley and ArtDrunk founder Gary Yeh, combined with models trained by BMW on the planning datasets of contemporary artists' works. It is understood that the training scope of the model is more than 50000 pictures in 9, 000 years of art history, and then new AI animations are generated by AI according to classical and contemporary art styles.

In addition, these paintings also make use of Nvidia's AI architecture StyleGAN. By modifying different algorithm parameters, AI can adapt to the works of specific artists, and the resulting animation can be projected onto the BMW i5 body. According to Shipley and Yeh, when dealing with AI's role in works of art, they will focus on its ability to support and extend the style of artists, rather than "replacing" these artists.

CTOnews.com previously reported that the new generation of BMW 5-series and pure electric version i5 was launched in Europe on May 24, the new car will be launched globally in October this year, and the extended domestic version is expected to continue to be introduced in the domestic market, which is expected to go into production in January 2024 at the earliest. The pure electric version i5 will also launch the M-brand-adjusted high-performance model i5 M60 and the station wagon version i5 Touring for the first time.
