CTOnews.com, June 19, with the development of science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually entering the publishing industry, especially in the field of audiobooks, where some voices generated by AI begin to play the role of readers. This worries some professional dubbing actors who worry that their voices will be copied by AI and lose their jobs.

According to research firm Wordsrated, the audiobook market is expected to grow by 26% a year from 2022 to 2030, reaching $35 billion by 2030 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 249.55 billion yuan). While the industry is booming, dubbing actors have become more alert to the threat posed by AI. According to CNBC, some dubbing actors refused to accept jobs that asked them to provide sound models to AI.

In fact, the sound generated by AI is already used by platforms such as Google and Apple. Apple has quietly released dozens of audiobooks read by voices called "Jackson" and "Madison" on its Books app. Google, on the other hand, provides publishers with an automatic reading feature that can be used as long as publishers own the rights to audiobooks.

But experts say AI still has a long way to go to perfectly replicate the way humans speak. Human beings show unique intonation, rhythm and emotion when speaking. "Human beings are very sensitive to sound." David Cicarelli, dubbing marketing executive, told CNBC, "what humans are good at is timing, whether it's an awkward pause or a humorous comedy, which can hardly be done by AI voice at once."

In January this year, when testing five audiobook clips, foreign media Insider was able to correctly determine which sounds were read by humans and which were generated by Apple's AI. However, the media said that non-human voices are not completely offensive.
