Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
"AI outpost" Beijing time June 19 news, the current popular circle of ChatGPT was originally just a research and demonstration project. But in just five days, its fate has taken a major turn.
OpenAI CTO Murati for OpenAI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mira Murati (Mira Murati), the night of November 29, 2022 is no different from any other day. That night, after her team completed the release of the experimental product ChatGPT, she returned home from OpenAI's San Francisco office.
ChatGPT was originally released by OpenAI as a research demonstration project. But when the chat robot reached 1 million users within five days of its launch, the plan changed dramatically. Murati's expectations for the number of ChatGPT users are at least an order of magnitude behind. She realized that OpenAI was at the forefront of a race to commercialize generative AI. Generative AI is an AI system that can quickly output text, images and content similar to those written by human beings.
"combining theory with practice is very important to figure out what is the real priority and where to go next," says Mr Murati. "when we decided to develop the product and deploy the technology, we did go through a major shift."
The release of ChatGPT helped Murati and OpenAI executives clarify the commercial value of generative AI. "our deployment strategy has now been extended to... the ChatGPT platform. On this platform, we have a direct relationship with our users," she said. "We can ask them for feedback, their preferences, and use that feedback... to make the code better."
ChatGPT was originally an experimental product, and now Murati is leading OpenAI to turn ChatGPT into a stand-alone product. After the amazing rise of ChatGPT, OpenAI is looking for ways to take advantage of ChatGPT's popularity among tens of millions of consumers. But Murati insists that despite OpenAI's new financial indicators, the company's main goals have not changed.
"our mission is to develop generic AI and figure out how to deploy it securely." General AI, she says, refers to a future of software that can perform a series of cognitive tasks at the level of human intelligence, "so we are always very careful not to ignore this."
Commercial subscription Murati's team has begun to provide commercial subscriptions to ChatGPT, which will allow customers to customize ChatGPT versions for specific purposes. They have also launched so-called plug-ins that allow users to stay in ChatGPT when using ChatGPT to browse the web, buy groceries and book restaurants through Instacart and OpenTable.
Today, OpenAI, like many software companies in Silicon Valley, touts itself as a "platform" company, offering two products: their application programming interface (API), which allows third parties to pay to integrate OpenAI's software into their products; the other is ChatGPT. Microsoft, OpenAI's largest shareholder, will be its third independent revenue channel. Microsoft has invested tens of billions of dollars in OpenAI.
"ChatGPT gives us direct access to people, gather feedback and make our models more accurate and useful," says Mr Murati. "API is a platform that allows others to build on our models."
AI "guardrail" as AI software becomes more and more powerful, its potential risks have become a major concern for policy makers, the business community, and the research community, including challenges such as bogus content generated by AI and the dissemination of misinformation. In the long run, people worry that AI technology may act in an immoral way and lack human moral sense, thus posing a risk to human survival.
Last month, 350people in the industry, including OpenAI CEO Sam Sam Altman, said mitigating the risk of extinction posed by AI should be as global a priority as other social-scale risks such as epidemics and nuclear war.
In response, Murati said she supports the use of technical "guardrails" to reduce, eliminate or even prevent these dangers. "obviously, AI is moving very fast. But today, we use these systems more like assistive tools. We don't blindly or completely rely on them. They are more like tools to improve our productivity and creativity." Phoenix New Media science and technology "AI outpost" will continue to pay attention to this.
