The total global PCB output value of Taiwan businessmen in the first quarter was NT $181.8 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about NT $42.178 billion), down 15.4% from the same period last year, mainly due to the high base of epidemic and semiconductor dividends last year (20.8% year-on-year growth in the same period last year). This year, revenue has fallen under the impact of multiple factors such as global economic adjustment, high inventories and weak terminal demand.

Among them, sales of mobile phone-related products continued to be weak, especially the decline in iPhone sales affected the revenue of relevant manufacturers.

However, driven by telecommunications infrastructure and low-orbit satellite communications, sales of network communications products are growing against the trend. However, due to the unsealing of the global epidemic, PC sales have fallen sharply, while companies have also affected server spending by reducing costs and increasing efficiency. The highlight of the performance in the first quarter is that car sales are relatively excellent, and the relevant PCB output value will still grow steadily, driven by electric vehicles and automotive electronics.

TPCA said that under the influence of high inflation, high interest rates and other factors, the overall economic uncertainty is high, supply chain inventory attitude is still conservative, order visibility is not yet clear, the impact has been clearly reflected in the current quarter. Looking forward to the follow-up development, the recovery of terminal demand and the speed of inventory elimination are the key factors affecting the output value. TPCA is optimistic that automotive and network communications products still have growth momentum, but consumer products may remain depressed without innovative applications.

In terms of data, TPCA predicts that the global output value of Taiwan's PCB industry will decline by 13.4% in the second quarter. Looking ahead to 2023, it is estimated that the total output value for the whole year will decline by 6.2% in NT dollars (8.2% in US dollars). It is expected that the recovery of consumer demand in the second half of the year will lead to the attack of the PCB industry.
