With the continuous development of artificial intelligence, Meta is trying to compete with industry leaders such as OpenAI. However, this will be very difficult because the company has lost at least 1/3 researchers who have published artificial intelligence research in the past year. Some of them fall into job burnout, while others lack confidence in Meta.

In 2013, Zuckerberg hired Yann LeCun, the godfather of artificial intelligence, to lead Meta's efforts in the field of artificial intelligence, but Meta was not invited by the White House at the recent "innovative Frontier companies of artificial Intelligence" summit.

Now, Meta employees are urging Meta to follow a new direction, and the company is trying to correct previous mistakes that led Meta to shift its attention away from generative artificial intelligence.

Under the leadership of Yann LeCun, Meta artificial intelligence researchers have found it difficult to push large language models to land large models such as ChatGPT, according to people familiar with the matter. Still, at a meeting with employees in June, Zuckerberg praised the company's progress in artificial intelligence.

"Last year, we saw a lot of really incredible breakthroughs in generative artificial intelligence-qualitative breakthroughs," he said. "

It is reported that Meta lost many researchers last year. They say they feel exhausted or sceptical about the company's future plans in artificial intelligence. When OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November last year and effectively accelerated the AI innovation competition, more employees chose to leave.

Another AI competitor, the image generator Midjourney, gained attention within a year of its launch, thanks to the widespread spread of many popular AI-generated images online.

In an internal survey conducted between April 26 and May 10, only 26% of Meta employees said they had confidence in the company's leadership. Meta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Zuckerberg called 2023 a "year of efficiency" in its results released in February. The company laid off more than 11000 employees in November last year and continued to close the project in the coming months.
