Recently, the watch, which has been on the market for five years, has received a new software update, which mainly improves the stability and reliability of the sensor and may improve exercise and health tracking functions.

CTOnews.com noted that Samsung Galaxy Watch received frequent software updates in the first three years, the most significant of which was in February 2021, when it upgraded the system to Tizen OS 5.5.0.1, bringing many new features and performance improvements. In November 2021, Samsung launched Tizen OS version 5.5.0.2, adding new dials, group challenge widgets, longer calendar synchronization and other features. At the time, many users thought this was the last update for Galaxy Watch, but Samsung surprised users in August last year by pushing GPS stability improvements for the device to make GPS tracking more accurate.

Now, nearly five years after the device went on sale, Samsung has released another software update for Galaxy Watch. The official update log does not specify the update, but simply mentions improvements in sensor stability and reliability. However, for a watch released in 2018, it is commendable to receive an update in mid-2023.

It is reported that the update has been launched in some markets, including the United States and Europe. The new firmware version is R8 firmware XXU1GWE2 the size of the 34MB OTA package is a little more. Users can receive update prompts through the Galaxy Wearable app on the smartphone connected to the watch, or they can manually check for updates in the watch settings section of the application.

It is worth noting that the update took place a month before Samsung was about to launch the Galaxy Watch 6 series. It is reported that Samsung is preparing to launch two new smartwatches, one of which is a classic model with a physical rotating frame, which will be unveiled with new folding screen phones and flagship tablets in late July.
