CTOnews.com June 16, Micron announced today that it plans to invest more than 4.3 billion yuan in its packaging and testing plant in Xi'an, China in the next few years.

According to the announcement, Meguiar has decided to acquire the packaging equipment of Licheng Semiconductor (Xi'an) Co., Ltd. (Licheng Xi'an), and plans to build a new plant in Meguiar's Xi'an plant and introduce new and high-performance packaging and testing equipment. In order to better meet the needs of Chinese customers.

Meguiar said: "this investment, which adheres to the concept of Meguiar's global packaging and testing, will enhance the company's flexibility in manufacturing a variety of product portfolios in Xi'an, allowing Micron to directly operate its packaging and testing business at its plant in Xi'an." The announced new plant will introduce a new production line for the manufacture of mobile DRAM, NAND and SSD products to strengthen the existing packaging and testing capabilities of the Xi'an plant. Meguiar has been preparing for the project for some time and has started the qualification certification work for the production of mobile DRAM in Xi'an.

According to the previous long-term strategic agreement, Licheng Xi'an equipment has been operating in Micron's wholly-owned plant since 2016. The agreement has now expired. Micron expects the acquisition to be completed in about a year, subject to Chinese regulatory approval.

Meguiar will provide new employment contracts to all 1200 employees in Licheng Xi'an. The new investment project will add an additional 500 jobs, bringing Micron's total number of employees in China to more than 4500.

According to a previous report by CTOnews.com, the official website of the Internet Information Office issued a notice on May 21, saying that the products sold by Micron in China failed the cyber security review.
