CTOnews.com June 15, Intel today announced a major upgrade to the Core brand, splitting it into a new Intel Core Ultra for flagship products and Intel Core processor brands for mainstream products.

The upcoming Meteor Lake processor will be named "Intel Core Ultra," a minor update to the 13th generation Core U series will be named "Intel Core 1st Generation Processor," and a minor update to the 13th generation Core HX and desktop processors will be named "Intel Core Processor (14th Generation)."

Although the 13th generation Core HX and desktop processors will retain the Core ix name, Intel officials have confirmed that they will abandon the "i" series name for client processors starting with Meteor Lake.

According to AnandTech, about 15 years ago, the Core i series debuted in 2008, marking the end of the Core / Core 2 era and a new beginning for Intel client processors.

Regarding this brand update, Caitlin Anderson, Intel vice president and general manager of sales for the client computing business unit, said in the news:

"Our customer roadmap shows how Intel prioritizes innovation and technology leadership with products like Meteor Lake, with a focus on energy efficiency and artificial intelligence. To better align with our product strategy, we are introducing a brand structure to help PC buyers better differentiate the essence of our latest technology from our mainstream offerings. "

Meteor Lake represents a turning point in Intel's client processor roadmap. This will be the first client processor built on the new Intel 4 node. This is also the first client-side chiplet design supported by Foveros advanced 3D packaging technology, which will deliver higher power efficiency and graphics performance. It is also the first Intel client processor equipped with a dedicated AI engine, Intel AI Boost.
