CTOnews.com, June 15 (Xinhua)-- Nokia announced today that it has completed testing of a new 5G network slicing scheme that allows Android users to buy and activate network slices on demand from their operators. The new service will be launched synchronously after the release of the Android 14 system.

Network slicing is a practice of splitting the physical network infrastructure into multiple virtual networks, in which a single slice can provide better and customizable services for App. For example, users can activate network slices through the local cloud game App to achieve better network performance and lower latency; when watching live sports events, they can activate network slices to instantly view wonderful playback.

Nokia said that with this new feature, operators will be able to further monetize 5G slicing services, such as by providing high-quality network slicing. The new product will support all 4G and 5G devices, which will enable mobile operators to take advantage of a broad ecosystem of equipment and network assets, thereby increasing profitability.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Ericsson, OPPO and Qualcomm successfully tested 5G enterprise network slices on commercial smartphones last year, paving the way for a wider deployment of the technology. Network slicing is regarded by operators as one of the biggest revenue opportunities for independent 5G networks.
