CTOnews.com, June 15 (Xinhua) according to a new paper published in the international journal Ichnos, archaeologists have found seven ancient human footprints off the coast of Cape South, South Africa, one of which is considered to be the oldest Homo sapiens footprint in the world.
Using a measurement technique called Optically Stimulated Luminescence, archaeologists found that most Homo sapiens footprints can be traced back to 710,000 years ago, and the oldest footprints can be traced back to 153,000 years ago, making the oldest Homo sapiens footprints found to date back 30,000 years.
The footprint, found on a remote beach west of Garden Route National Park (Garden Route National Park), is thought to have been left by an adult woman who is about 1.6m tall and weighs about 50kg.
The oldest footprints were found in Nahoon and Langebaan, South Africa, 124, 000 and 117, 000 years ago, respectively. CTOnews.com attaches a link to the paper here, which interested users can click to read.
