Qunhui users reported that after using the WDDA hard drive for three years, the DiskStation Manager (DSM) will display a "warning" sign, saying: "the hard drive has been powered on for a long time, please consider replacing the hard drive as soon as possible."

Qunhui officials responded that the warning message came from Westinghouse, not the company, and that some products affected by WDDA included WD Red Pro, WD Red Plus and WD Purple.

Western Digital monitors power-on hours through its development of Western Digital Device Analytics (WDDA). Users believe Western Digital's move is a panic strategy to encourage customers to buy more hard drives, and many people have indicated that they no longer recommend buying Western hard drives.
