In the past few weeks, many automakers and charging companies have promised to use the NACS interface. Ford is the first large carmaker to announce that it will convert all electric vehicles to be compatible with the Tesla supercharging station from 2025, when it will be able to charge using the Tesla supercharging station without using an adapter. GM made a similar announcement shortly after, and several charging companies, including ChargePoint, Blink and Kempower, said they would also use NACS.

Similar announcements are likely to be made by more major carmakers soon, although NACS has not yet been set as a standard by CharIN, a regulatory body focused on electrification of all forms of transport. Tesla CEO Elon Musk encouraged Toyota to be the next entrant. In response to an article about Toyota's bZ4X EV, he said, "they should join the NACS alliance!"

The NACS doesn't help cars recharge faster, but with this interface, cars are likely to recharge in more places, perhaps making it easier to travel long distances. Toyota, which has long been considered one of the backward carmakers in electrification, prefers to use hybrid systems.
