Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com June 14, the American Psychological Association recently released a study that "employees who are often exposed to AI are more likely to be lonely and increase the risk of disease."

Dr. Pok Man Tang, the lead expert in the study, is said to have worked in an investment bank. His previous work involved in "building and interacting with artificial intelligence systems", which made him interested in "psychological problems of employees involved in contact with AI."

The researchers entered a biomedical company and surveyed 166 engineers using artificial intelligence systems for three weeks to learn about their feelings of loneliness, attachment anxiety and belonging. They also conducted a total of four experiments in other places to ensure the reliability of the research results.

In a follow-up experiment conducted by the ▲ American Psychological Association on 126 real estate consultants from a property management company, half were asked not to participate in "using AI" for three consecutive days, while the other half were told to "participate in using AI as much as possible." The results of the latter group were similar to previous experiments, except that there was no correlation between the frequency of use of artificial intelligence and the amount of alcohol consumed after work.

The researchers also surveyed 214 full-time American adults and 294 employees of a Malaysian technology company. The results show that "the effect of AI on human psychology is consistent in different cultures". The study is published online in the Journal of Applied Psychology, where CTOnews.com 's friends can find the paper.

▲ Tuyuan American Psychological Association research finally said that "employees who interact more frequently with artificial intelligence systems are more likely to experience loneliness and lead to 'considerable concern for colleagues', insomnia and alcoholism."

Tang, an assistant professor of management at the University of Georgia, said: "Human beings are social animals, and frequent exposure to cold AI may have a devastating impact on people's personal lives. At the same time, he said, "the rapid development of AI is triggering a new industrial revolution, which can bring many benefits, but there are also many unknown dangers, and the first to bear the brunt of this period is the mental state of employees when facing cold machines for a long time."
