CTOnews.com, June 14 (Xinhua)-- Nissan unveiled its next-generation driving assistance technology, Ground Truth Perception (GTP), to the media in early June, and announced plans to commercialize it in the mid-2020s and apply it to more new models in 2030, according to the Daily Industry News.

The ▲ image source PexelsGTP system claims to use high-performance lidar (LiDAR), which can identify the situation of the vehicle with high precision and take correct control action even at high speed.

During the demonstration, the vehicle using GTP can accurately judge the speed and position of the motorcycle that rushed out of the intersection, and predict the possibility of collision with high precision. Depending on the degree of danger, GTP will automatically take actions such as sudden braking, release the brakes immediately after avoiding the risk of collision, and control the vehicle immediately and safely.

The high-performance LiDAR used by ‎ GTP, manufactured by Luminar Technologies in the United States, has a field of view of 25 degrees vertically and 120 degrees horizontally with a resolution of 0.05degrees. According to reports, the LiDAR can detect obstacles within 300m ahead, and even if the vehicle is driving at an ultra-high speed of 130km per hour, it can also avoid obstacles by changing lanes.

Nissan official said: "We already know how to implement the L4 (fully autonomous driving technology under certain conditions) assisted driving system, but it is difficult to know at what level the technology must be mature to make customers feel at ease to use it. As a result, we are constantly increasing the amount of real data collected, including unusual and complex accidents, and improving collision avoidance capabilities step by step."

CTOnews.com has previously reported that Nissan has invested heavily in self-driving in recent years. In March, the company launched a trial operation of Robotaxi, a self-driving taxi service based on a mass-produced all-electric model, the Nissan leaf, in Suzhou.
