CTOnews.com, June 14, SiMa.ai, a Silicon Valley artificial intelligence chip start-up, announced on Tuesday that it has raised an additional $13 million from investors including TSMC VentureTech Alliance, and SiMa.ai has so far raised a total of $200 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.432 billion yuan).

This is at least the third time VentureTech Alliance has invested in an American chip start-up in the past month. In May, VentureTech Alliance participated in the financing of Ayar Labs and Ethernovia, with amounts of $25 million and $64 million, respectively.

As the viral success of ChatGPT has triggered an artificial intelligence boom, this has brought another round of investment in artificial intelligence hardware. But some startups that have raised large amounts of money in previous years are already in trouble.

SiMa.ai has developed software and hardware to run artificial intelligence algorithms on devices such as industrial robots, drones, security cameras and self-driving cars. SiMa.ai declined to disclose its current valuation, but CEO and founder Krishna Rangasayee said the company has started generating revenue since it was founded in 2018 and that more than 50 customers are testing its chips. Rangasayee also highlighted the latest test results of SiMa.ai, which beat artificial intelligence chip giant Nvidia in terms of performance and power consumption, and the test data were released by MLCommons.
