CTOnews.com, June 14, according to Digital Times, Samsung SDI, which is in charge of battery and electronic materials manufacturing, has confirmed that it and General Motors will establish a new joint venture battery factory in New Carlisle, Indiana.

Samsung SDI said the joint venture plant covers an area of about 2.65 million square meters, equivalent to the size of 390 standard football fields. When the production facility is completed, the two sides are expected to create about 1700 jobs.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Samsung SDI and General Motors jointly announced in April that they would invest more than $3 billion to build a battery plant with an annual capacity of more than 30GWh, with a goal of mass production by 2026. Maribara, GM's chairman and CEO, has said that the batteries jointly built by the two companies will help GM increase its annual production capacity of electric vehicles in North America to more than 1 million.

Samsung SDI has previously announced a joint venture battery plant in the US with Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest vehicle maker, which will start production in 2025 with an annual capacity of 23GWh. It is worth mentioning that the factory is also located in Indiana.
