According to CTOnews.com news on June 14, Tesla Semi semitrailer truck (Tesla Semi) is an electric heavy freight vehicle launched by Tesla Company, which aims to reduce transportation costs and carbon emissions. The model made its debut in 2017 and was originally scheduled to start production in 2019, but production plans have been repeatedly delayed due to insufficient battery supply and other reasons. Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, said recently that mass production of Tesla's Semi semitrailer truck would be delayed until at least the end of 2024.

Musk said at the 2023 meeting of the Edison Electrical Association (Edison Electric Institute) on Tuesday that the mass production of Tesla's semitrailer truck would not be realized until the end of 2024 because of limited battery supply, according to the Wall Street Journal.

At present, the Tesla semitrailer truck uses Tesla's 2170 battery unit, but Tesla did not disclose the battery capacity of the model. According to the data released by Tesla, we can roughly estimate the battery capacity of the model. Tesla's semitrailer truck consumes 1.7kWh per mile and has a range of 500mph when loaded with 81000 pounds (CTOnews.com Note: about 804.67 km). Based on these data, we can calculate that the battery capacity of the model is about 850kWh to 900kWh, which is equivalent to more than a dozen long-lasting Model Y SUV.

Last November, PepsiCo received its first electric Tesla semitrailer truck, which was built at a new factory near the Nevada superfactory. A few months later, Tesla announced plans to expand the Nevada super factory and build a new "high-production" production area dedicated to the production of Tesla semitrailers, but there is no timetable for when the plant will start operation. According to Musk, it seems that Tesla will continue to produce Tesla semitrailers at a low output at a nearby factory until the end of next year.
