CTOnews.com, June 14, the Federal Trade Commission of the United States applied to a federal court in California for a temporary injunction on the 12th, asking the judge to stop Microsoft's acquisition of video game developer Activision Blizzard on the grounds that the acquisition may violate anti-monopoly law.

A US judge approved the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) request to temporarily block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard on Tuesday and scheduled a hearing next week, Reuters reported.

The court plans to hold a two-day evidentiary hearing on FTC's request for a preliminary injunction from June 22 to 23. The court said the temporary injunction "is to maintain the status quo, to await the outcome of the complaint and to retain the ability of the court to take effective measures when it deems it necessary to issue a preliminary injunction".

The Federal Trade Commission filed a petition with the Federal District Court of Northern California in San Francisco in December last year, seeking to block the deal on the grounds of hindering competition, and this time applied to the presiding judge for an injunction to prevent Microsoft and Activision Blizzard from completing the acquisition process before the deadline set out in the July 18 agreement. The Commission hopes to make an investigation conclusion on whether the acquisition violates the anti-monopoly law.

CTOnews.com had previously reported that the European Union had approved the acquisition, but the UK Competition and Market Authority suspended it in April, saying it could "crack down on innovation in the next few years and reduce the choice of video game users in the UK". Microsoft said it would file a complaint against the British decision.
