Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens seabuckthorn,, rain and snow, Harry12345, South China Wu Yanzu, luggage, independent photographers for their clues! CTOnews.com June 13 news, June 13, Nikon for the brand flagship camera Z 9 released version number 4.00 of the new firmware. This firmware update, the third since the Nikon Z 9 was released, adds "auto-shoot" functionality and optimizes some operations for video recording and photo shooting.

▲ Nikon, the same below, the "automatic shooting" function can play a role when the camera is placed in a place where the user cannot stay for a long time. The user can set the pre-shooting conditions in advance, and the shooting function will be triggered automatically when the selected criteria are met.

For video recording, the new firmware sets ISO sensitivity to Lo 2.0 minimum for N-Log recording, increasing dark dynamic range and reducing noise. In addition, there is a new "slow motion" feature for 4x or 5x frame rates.

In terms of photo shooting, new firmware enables higher object capture performance and supports exposure delay mode, which helps reduce image blur caused by camera shake.

In addition, this firmware update also provides new features such as increasing the number of customizable controls, increasing the shutter volume, displaying the approximate distance between the camera and the focus position in manual focus mode, and improving the display accuracy of the video playback progress bar.

CTOnews.com attaches the full update log:

automatic shooting

The new "Auto Shoot" feature automatically shoots when the subject meets one or more preconfigured conditions, giving users new options for photo and video shooting, especially useful when more automation is needed or the camera must be placed where the user cannot stay for long periods of time.

Users can set the camera to automatically record photos or videos by pre-configuring the trigger conditions for "auto-capture." The three configurable conditions include the Motion option to detect subjects in specific motion, the Distance option to start shooting when subjects are within a certain distance, and the Object Detection option to detect people, animals, or cars within the frame. These options can be used individually or in combination, and will trigger shooting automatically when the selected criteria are met.

This feature allows users to shoot remotely without having to manually determine the timing of shooting and recording, gives users more freedom to perform other tasks, or the ability to place the camera where users cannot stay for long periods of time, such as when shooting or recording wildlife.

When shooting with multiple Nikon Z9 cameras, users can move one camera around for manual shooting while placing the other cameras in fixed positions for automatic shooting from a tripod. Auto shooting also allows shooting from multiple angles without the need for shutter cables previously required to control multiple cameras and without having to worry about connectivity issues when shooting remotely. It can also be used with the "pre-shoot" feature to capture decisive moments more reliably.

Video recording feature improvements

Video features have been further enhanced, including expanding the minimum ISO sensitivity for N-Log recording, increasing the number of options for high-resolution zoom speed, and adding "slow motion" video recording. When recording with N-Log, ISO sensitivity can be set as low as Lo 2.0. Expanding the ISO sensitivity of dark parts increases the dynamic range of dark parts and reduces noise, achieving rich and clear dark tone expression.

The number of options for high-resolution zoom speed increased from 3 to 11 for more accurate speed control. It is now possible to make finer adjustments to zoom speed, e.g., zoom more steadily at a slower speed, resulting in a zoom expression that is more in line with user intent. Firmware version 4.00 also adds a "slow motion" video feature, which can play videos with slow motion effects at 1/4 (4x) or 1/5 (5x) frame rates.

Photo shooting function improved

3D tracking's "object capture" performance has been improved when taking photos to capture small as well as fast moving subjects. Higher object capture performance is now possible when small or fast moving objects cannot be detected using 3D Tracking Object Detection. In addition, to better respond to the needs of field staff, the duration of the camera's continuous buffering of images before canceling the shot during the pre-shoot phase of high-speed image capture was extended from 30 seconds to 300 seconds, allowing users to wait longer between half-pressing and fully pressing the shutter release button. Firmware version 4.00 also adds an "Exposure Delay Mode" option to the Custom Settings menu to help reduce image blur caused by camera shake when the shutter release button is pressed.

Other improvements in operability and functionality

This firmware release also supports greater operability by increasing the number of controls that can specify custom functions and adding new shutter sound options.

Increased the number of features that can be assigned to custom controls, as well as the number of customizable controls.

The focus indicator for manual focus has been newly added to show the approximate distance between the camera and the focus position in user-selected units.

Users can choose from five shutter tones when the shutter is released, and can set the volume higher.

The new Fast Forward Zoom Position option allows users to choose how photos are centered when scrolling through them during zoom-in playback, which can be assigned to custom controls. When you select the preferred focus point, the camera is displayed centered on the focus point that was activated at the time of shooting.

Improved accuracy of progress bar display during video playback.
