CTOnews.com, June 13 (Xinhua) Toyota announced that it will launch an all-electric vehicle (EV) with next-generation batteries on the global market from 2026, and will be developed and manufactured by Toyota's new division, BEV, which focuses on electric vehicles. The next-generation battery is still a high-performance lithium-ion battery, charging for 20 minutes and a range of up to 1000 km.

Takero Kato, president of Toyota's car division, said in a demonstration video released yesterday that Toyota's goal is to allow electric vehicles to have a range of 1000 kilometers. For comparison, the long-range version of Tesla Model 3 has a range of nearly 700km.

"what we want to achieve is to change the future with BEV," Kato said. "We will launch electric vehicles with next-generation batteries around the world and start launching a full range of products on the market in 2026." He also said that the BEV plant was established in May this year and aims to produce about 1.7 million cars by 2030.

In April, Toyota sold 8584 electric vehicles worldwide, including Lexus, accounting for more than 1 per cent of the global market for the first time in a single month.
