CTOnews.com, June 13, according to the latest report released by market research agency Counterpoint Research, the number of Internet of things devices with cellular network connectivity in the world reached 2.7 billion in 2022, an increase of 29% over the same period last year.

The report believes that the number of cellular Internet of things devices will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.8%, and is expected to exceed 6 billion by 2030.

According to the report, China accounted for more than 2/3 of cellular Internet of things devices in 2022, followed by Europe and North America.

Cellular Internet of things connections play an important role in improving productivity, simplifying operations, minimizing downtime, automating processes, and saving costs for the industry.

Nearly 90% of cellular Internet of things devices installed before the end of 2022 use 4G and NB-IoT. 4G Internet of things devices have become the preferred technology for cellular Internet of things connection after surpassing 2G and 3G in 2016.

NB-IoT is mainly promoted in China, while LTE-M technology is preferred for low-end applications in Japan, Australia and North America, while a combination of NB-IoT and LTE-M is used in the European market.
