Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com June 13, according to Reuters, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said yesterday that some AI executives had proposed to establish a global AI regulatory body similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which he expressed support.
Tuyuan Pixabay Guterres told reporters: "the latest form of artificial intelligence, that is, generative AI, is sounding deafening alarm bells, of which the loudest source is the developers of generative AI. We must take these warnings seriously."
Guterres also announced that the United Nations plans to set up a senior AI advisory body by the end of this year to regularly review AI governance arrangements and make recommendations on how these arrangements are consistent with human rights, the rule of law and common interests. "inspired by the International Atomic Energy Agency, I think it is possible to set up an international AI regulatory body," he added.
Guterres also stressed that such a model may be "very interesting", but pointed out that "only member States can create it, the United Nations Secretariat does not have the right to set it." The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency, established in 1957 to promote the safe, reliable and peaceful use of nuclear technology, while focusing on possible violations of the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), currently has 176 member states.
CTOnews.com has previously reported that British Prime Minister Sunak also supports this idea and plans to hold an AI regulatory summit in the UK later this year to discuss how the international community should take concerted action to deal with AI risks.
Guterres expressed support for Britain's plan, but pointed out that "serious work" should be carried out before hosting the summit. He plans to appoint a scientific advisory board of AI experts and chief scientists of United Nations agencies in the coming days.
