Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 13 (Xinhua) Nature, a famous scientific journal founded in 1869, recently announced in an editorial that in order to ensure the integrity, transparency and ethics of research, it will not publish any pictures, videos or illustrations created using generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) tools, except articles related to artificial intelligence.
Generative artificial intelligence is a technology that uses a large amount of data to train a model and then generate new content. For example, ChatGPT and Midjourney are two popular generative artificial intelligence tools that can generate text and images respectively. Nature magazine believes that although this technology has broad application prospects, it also brings some problems that are difficult to solve.
First of all, generative artificial intelligence tools cannot provide information about their data sources, making it impossible for editors, publishers and readers to verify their accuracy and authenticity. This violates the principle of integrity and transparency of scientific publishing. Second, generative artificial intelligence tools may infringe on the privacy and intellectual property rights of data owners because they are usually trained with a large number of unauthorized copyrighted works. Thirdly, generative artificial intelligence tools may aggravate the spread of false information. For example, deep forgery (deepfake) is a technology that uses generative artificial intelligence to create fake videos that can be used to mislead the public or slander others.
As a result, Nature decided to ban the use of generative artificial intelligence tools to create visual content, at least for the foreseeable future. The magazine requires all commissioned artists, filmmakers, illustrators and photographers to confirm that the technology is not used when submitting works.
However, Nature does not completely reject artificial intelligence. CTOnews.com notes that the magazine still allows the use of generative AI-assisted text in articles, as long as it is clearly stated in the method or thank you section. In addition, all sources of data, even those generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence, must be provided by the author. However, Nature magazine firmly does not recognize any generative artificial intelligence tool as the author of the paper.
