Toston said in response to a question from foreign media AutoCar that although Toyota and other companies have developed hydrogen-fired engines, and Rolls-Royce's parent company tried hydrogen-burning technology in the BMW 7-Series at the beginning of the 21st century, Rolls-Royce will not consider using hydrogen-fired engines: "this technology is not the most effective way to use hydrogen. If hydrogen is to be used in the future, it must be through fuel cells." Fuel cells are no different from ordinary cells, only in different ways of getting energy. "

Toston said bluntly: "when we think the right time to come, Rolls-Royce will certainly pursue more advanced technology, maybe we will stay away from ordinary cells and fully turn to the fuel cell field."

However, Toston also admits that the average family's lack of access to hydrogen is a current technical obstacle. By contrast, most Spectre users already own more than one electric car, and they can easily charge through a charging post in the office or at home, so the existing pure electric car has an advantage for them.

For this reason, Rolls-Royce is "closely monitoring" the development of hydrogenation infrastructure to assess the possibility of hydrogen fuel cells.

Rolls-Royce Spectre was officially unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April this year. The car is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a domestic pre-price of 5.75 million yuan.
