CTOnews.com, June 12, according to Business Korea, news about the supply chain has been heard since the release of Apple's Vision Pro. Recently, sources revealed that although Sony will provide the OLEDoS panel (a high-resolution Micro OLED display panel made from a silicon substrate) for the head display, LG Display is expected to become the largest display supplier for the next generation of Vision Pro.

Industry insiders have previously said that the production cost of the Vision Pro is about $1519 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 10830 yuan), and the OLEDoS panel provided by Sony is the most expensive of all components, with a price of about $350 each (currently about 2496 yuan), and each device requires two OLEDoS panels. LG Display will provide the Vision Pro with an external OLED monitor, which sells for just $30 (currently about RMB214).

CTOnews.com previously reported that because Sony currently has a production capacity of only 900000 OLEDoS panels a year, and the company has rejected Apple's request to expand production, Apple is looking for a new OLEDoS panel supplier.

Although LG Display and Samsung show that they have not yet established their own Micro OLED panel production lines, both companies are stepping up research and development. Samsung announced in August last year that it would develop Micro OLED, and shortly after that, it set up an R & D laboratory with the goal of mass production of Micro OLED panels within two years. In May, Samsung bought Imagine, an American Micro OLED company, for 290 billion won (currently about 1.601 billion yuan).

LG Display has been testing the Micro OLED panel since 2020 and is actively preparing to expand the XR market. As a result, LG Display is widely expected to outperform Samsung in mass production and quality control, and will replace Sony with better products and greater production capacity as the largest display supplier of Apple's next-generation Vision Pro.
