CTOnews.com, June 12 (Xinhua) Toyota recently launched a mobile toilet designed for the disabled, an innovative project that took three years. This toilet is not only convenient for wheelchair users, but also has the characteristics of water-saving, energy-saving and portable, and can be transported to various public places at any time as a trailer.

Toyota's vision design department was given the unusual task of designing a mobile toilet in 2019. They asked the toilet to meet the special needs of people, especially wheelchair users. Outdoor public toilets are often difficult for people with mobility difficulties, so the Japanese carmaker decided to make some innovations.

They designed a prototype of the toilet a long time ago and planned to test it at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but the test was postponed to 2021 because of the COVID-19 epidemic. CTOnews.com noted that the toilet has some features, such as seats a few centimeters higher than ordinary toilets to suit different needs, armrests that allow wheelchairs to rotate 360 degrees, and bright designs and skylights to create a warm and comfortable space. However, there are some problems with the prototype. The light-colored floor is easily marked by wheelchairs and is a bit slippery. Toyota then modified the design to replace it with a dark, textured floor.

As for mobility, it was originally designed to allow toilets to be self-driven and could be transported to various venues, but later changed to a trailer for simplification, which could be towed without special permits or documents. In addition, Toyota has developed a low-water system similar to that used by Japanese bullet trains, which greatly reduces the amount of water used.

After using it at the 2022 World Rally Championships in Japan, users also put forward some suggestions for improvement, such as adding electric doors and a simple locking mechanism, according to the Toyota Times.
