Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, June 12 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Imperium Drive, a British company that studies self-driving technology, recently launched a car rental service, Fetch, which delivers rental vehicles to users through remote driving, BBC reported. The company stressed that it was the first European company to launch such a service.

Specifically, users apply for a rental car by entering a transfer time and place on Fetch's mobile phone App, and then a driverless car goes to the customer's designated place on its own. After getting on the car, the customer can drive normally like an ordinary vehicle. If you need to return the car, just park the car in the parking lot, and the system will once again arrange to retrieve the vehicle in a driverless way.

▲ Touyuan: Imperium Drive, however, Imperium Drive CEO Koosha Kaveh said the service is "self-driving, but not self-driving". At present, there is a security guard behind every car, who sit in the office to monitor the vehicle in real time and take over the vehicle remotely if necessary.

Imperium Drive has driven more than 1000 miles (1609 kilometers) of roads in these cities in the past 18 months without a single collision. The company hopes to eliminate the need for security guards after further testing over the next 18 months, thereby achieving true self-driving.

The vehicles currently offered by Fetch are electric, but users are not required to recharge before returning them. As it is still in the pilot phase, the service covers only any location within a four-mile radius of downtown Milton Keynes in the UK for the time being.

The Fetch service is supported by Milton Keynes City Council, which believes it will help reduce the number of cars on the road.
