The standard is revised by Beijing Bicycle and Electric vehicle Industry Association in conjunction with relevant institutions and enterprises to improve the safety and stability of lithium batteries for electric bicycles and to prevent accidents such as explosion and fire caused by battery mismatch, assembly and modification, high temperature, collision and other reasons.

CTOnews.com noted that 19 items have been added and 20 related technical requirements have been added to the newly revised technical standards, some of which are officially included in the standards for the first time in the country. For example, the collaborative recognition function of battery pack and vehicle can prevent users from replacing unsuitable battery packs at will, resulting in incompatibility between batteries and vehicles; battery (single) thermal abuse and acupuncture detection items can detect whether the battery will break its diaphragm after high temperature or collision, causing internal short circuit or overheating. The overtemperature alarm function of the battery pack requires that when the internal temperature of the battery pack or the temperature of a battery reaches 80 ℃, the vehicle or battery pack should sound an alarm within 30 seconds, which is of positive significance to the safe use of electric bicycle users.

In addition, the newly revised technical standard also defines the function of the battery pack management system (BMS), details the test methods such as data upload function and free fall, increases the safety items such as battery handle strength and salt spray, improves the stable performance requirements of the battery (single unit), and takes the lead in applying the mutual recognition and cooperative recognition function of the battery pack and the charging device.

A relevant person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Market Regulatory Administration said that Beijing will also implement a catalogue system for electric bicycles to include new technical indicators related to safety in the newly revised technical standards into the scope of the catalogue.
