CTOnews.com, June 12, Microsoft's game business CEO Phil Spencer revealed in a closed-door meeting with reporters and analysts that Xbox is expected to earn more than $1 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 7.13 billion yuan) from the PC platform in 2023.

According to Spencer, the influence of the PC platform in the Xbox gaming business is growing and revenue is expected to exceed $1 billion in 2023. Xbox is already doing very well, generating a record $16.22 billion in revenue in fiscal 2022. In fiscal year 2023, which ended at the end of June 2023, Xbox generated $11.977 billion in revenue for fiscal year 23, which ended at the end of this month. Data show that Microsoft made $2.9 billion from Game Pass services alone in 2021.

Microsoft has embraced Steam in the past few years, releasing more products on the platform, including the migration of Bethesda games from the defunct Bethesda.net store to Steam.

To better understand these numbers, let's put them in a larger context. In calendar year 2022, Xbox generated revenue of $15.563 billion. According to current figures, Xbox is unlikely to reach this level of income in 2023. But to facilitate discussion, assume they can do it. So, if the $1 billion revenue generated on the PC platform is compared to the total revenue of $15.563 billion, this will make PC games account for about 6-7 per cent of total annual revenue.

The release of this year's much-anticipated Starfield RPG game on Xbox and PC will generate additional cash flow. Microsoft Game Pass is also likely to see strong subscription growth because Starsky will also launch Game Pass services on its first day of launch.
