Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, June 11 (Xinhua)-- according to the Washington Post's analysis of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla has had a total of 736 car accidents using Autopilot since 2019, far more than previously reported, in which at least 17 people were killed.

Authorities first released some Autopilot-related accident statistics in 2022, when only three deaths were confirmed to be related to Autopilot. But recent figures show that there are at least 17 deaths, 11 of which occurred after May last year, and five people were seriously injured. Four of the 17 accidents involved a motorcycle and one involved an emergency vehicle.

The report also pointed out that since the US government required automakers to disclose accidents involving auxiliary driving technology in 2021, the vast majority of the 807 self-driving-related accidents involved Tesla, while Subaru ranked second. 23 accidents have been reported since 2019. Of all the auxiliary driving-related accidents reported by Tesla to the NHTSA, nearly 2/3 occurred in the past year.

Tesla's autopilot technology includes Auxiliary driving Mode (Autopilot) and fully Autopilot Mode (Full Self Driving,FSD). The Autopilot mode can control the speed and direction of the vehicle on the highway, while the FSD mode can navigate and turn on urban roads.

Tesla has not responded to this as of CTOnews.com, which has said its self-driving technology requires human drivers to monitor the vehicle and maintain control at all times.

The US Highway Safety Administration has said that the accident report involving the Autopilot system itself does not mean that the technology is the cause of the accident. Veronica Morales, a spokesman for the agency, said: "NHTSA is investigating Tesla's autopilot, including fully autopilot. NHTSA reminds the public that all advanced driving assistance systems require human drivers to be able to control and fully devote themselves to driving tasks at all times. As a result, all state laws require human drivers to be responsible for the operation of their vehicles. "
