The following situations are suitable for point photometry:

1. There are two ways for us to use point photometry in a backlight environment:

First, when we want to ensure the normal exposure of the subject in the backlight, we can use point photometry to measure the important part of the subject, such as the face of the character when shooting the backlight portrait.

It should be noted that the point metering range is about 5% of the whole screen, so it is more suitable for small subjects; in addition, the background may be overexposed when using point metering in the backlight environment, combined with reflector and flash is a better way to deal with backlight portraits.

Second, when you want to shoot the silhouette effect in the backlight environment, you can measure the light on the bright part of the light source, so that the light source will not be overexposed, the main silhouette will not be dark enough, and the outline is not obvious.

two。 Dark background in a very dark background, point photometry is also very useful, because too large photometric range will be affected by the dark background, resulting in inaccurate photometry.

In dark places such as the stage and basement, we can measure light at an important part of the main body to make the exposure more accurate and make the picture more textured.

3. The light and bright background is not only easy to measure light inaccurately in the dark background, but also in the brighter background. If the brightness of the subject is not consistent with the background, it is easy to make the exposure of the photo abnormal.

In the environment where the overall color is lighter and brighter, point photometry is also easy to use, such as snow, large white walls, etc., which can also be aimed at an important part of the main body.

When shooting a character, if the color of the character's clothes is too dark and too light, we can also use point photometry to measure the face of the character to narrow the range of photometry, so as to avoid the influence of clothes.

In addition, when shooting characters, try not to measure the light of the eyes, because the color of the eyes is too dark, which can easily lead to abnormal exposure of other parts.

4. The moon wants to shoot a clear, normal exposure of the moon, reflecting the details of the moon, and point light measurement is also very easy to use. except for large telephoto and ultra-telephoto lenses, the moon in other lenses is close to a "point" shape and can be covered by point metering range. after the shooting is finished, you can also get a good picture of the moon.

In a highly contrasting environment, we can use point photometry to assist us to take more accurate exposures.
