CTOnews.com, June 11 (Xinhua)-- the results of the first performance tests of Apple's new M2 Ultra chip have been published on the Geekbench 6 website, giving us a more intuitive picture of the improvement in the CPU performance of the chip, which will be available on new Mac Studio and Mac Pro computers to be released next week.

The test results show that the Mac Studio computer with M2 Ultra chip has a single-core and multi-core score of about 2800 and 21700, respectively. These scores confirm that the M2 Ultra chip has a 20% improvement in CPU performance over the M1 Ultra chip, which, as Apple advertises, means that the M2 Ultra chip is the fastest chip in Apple's history.

The scores also confirm that the overall CPU performance of the new Mac Pro should be twice as fast as that of the fastest Intel-based Mac Pro with a 28-core Xeon W processor. The achievement is all the more impressive because the new Mac Pro starts at $6999, while the 28-core Intel-based model starts at $12999, almost twice as much. In its WWDC keynote speech, Apple said the new Mac Pro computer is three times faster than Intel-based models, but only applies to some "real-world professional workflows, such as video transcoding and 3D simulation."

CTOnews.com believes that if there is no need for six PCIe expansion slots, then there is no need to consider Mac Pro, but should consider buying Mac Studio computers, because the latter can also be equipped with M2 Ultra chips and is $3000 cheaper than Mac Pro computers.
