CTOnews.com, June 10, last month, Tesla began to sell Model 3 and Model Y models made by China's Shanghai Super Factory in Canada, and the first shipment has been completed.

Existing Canadian Model Y long-haul booking users have received a cancellation notice that the continued version of the 531km produced by the US factory has been cancelled and users can re-select the version of the 497km exported from China.

According to Tesla's website, the rear-wheel drive Model Y and the long-range all-wheel drive Model 3 are currently available for immediate delivery in British Columbia, Canada. Both cars are eligible for a federal subsidy of C $5000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 26050 yuan). But it is not clear how many Chinese-made Tesla cars can be bought in Canada, or how many have been sold.

But Tesla faces increasing competition from Chinese electric carmakers for price and functionality, and his Berlin plant has been ramping up production of Model Y for European customers.

Tesla's production base in China occupies the company's global cost advantage. The Chinese-made Model Y costs C $61990 (currently about 323000 yuan) in Canada, which is about 22% higher than the cost of the equivalent car before the preferential policy was introduced in China. However, because Canada does not link electric vehicle subsidies to the location of car production plants, Tesla is able to export Chinese-made Model 3 and Model Y models to Canada, and these models are also eligible for subsidies.

The code used by Tesla to list the vehicles for sale corresponds to the first three digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN of the Tesla model produced by the Shanghai factory begins with the letter "LRW", so it can be judged that the Model 3 and Model Y sold in Canada are made by Tesla Shanghai Factory. Tesla's sales in Canada will help expand its share of the North American market and provide a new market for Chinese-made Tesla cars.
