CTOnews.com June 10 news, according to foreign technology media tweaktown reports, Seagate plans to launch the first 32TB capacity hard drive using thermal-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology in the third quarter of this year, and plans to launch the 40TB model in 2024.

Interestingly, the 32TB model uses the same number of disks and heads as the current 20TB model using PMR technology.

Seagate also said it plans to launch the 50TB model in 2025 and has produced a prototype that is being tested in the laboratory.

CTOnews.com reported in April that Seagate has begun delivering thermal-assisted magnetic recording technology (HAMR) hard drives above 30TB to cloud data center customers.

Dave Mosley, Seagate's chief executive, said: "We are moving forward as planned, reaching an important milestone last week: the delivery of the first qualified samples to our partners. We are further advancing the Corvault system solution and are expected to see initial revenue from devices above 30TB this quarter."
