Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
When we first tried North's wearable computer in January, most of us left excitedly. Although these glasses are not completely "normal", in most ways, these thick frames are equipped with computers that can project images onto your lens. When we had to try the glasses ourselves, it was clear that the northern Focals was an ingenious design using Work In Progress software. This is an incredible ambition, but in the end we recommend that most people who ask us about these smart glasses wait for the next version.
Fortunately for those, it seems that the next version will be launched in 2020.
According to North, the first generation of Focals will no longer be sold from today. Stores in New York and Toronto will be used as showplaces to showcase technology, while stores in New York will soon reduce their business hours, but North said it would not be closed. Existing Focals owners will continue to update and support the software, but will no longer try to sell these headphones to new users. Instead, the company will focus on the next generation of glasses.
North plans to provide Gen1foculs owners with an upgrade to master the new technology.
What do we know about the second generation Fox now? In our conversation with North co-founder and CEO Stephen Lake, we know that people are very concerned about weight. One of the biggest complaints about Focals is their weight, especially when it comes to design, mostly on the bridge of the nose. According to Lake, for the second generation, Lake promised that the updated design would weigh no more than 50 grams, as you can see when a set of regular glasses weighs slightly above average. This is a noble goal compared to my own 72g Focals, but Lake has made it clear that this is a design that the company has been working on since it started buying the original Focals.
These new focuses will also be more likely to fit your face. In order to set the display of the first-generation focal on your face, you first need to go to the focal store, sit in front of the camera, measure your face, and stand in line. Finally, this daunting task was solved by using similar technology on Apple's FaceID. Obviously, the new version does not require much setup, although there are few details.
We don't know when Gen2foculs will be released, but North plans to be very open to the development process after next year and provide a lot of details. In addition, when the new glasses finally hit the market, North plans to provide Gen1foculs owners with an upgrade path to help them master the new technology. I'm glad to see that early adopters have been taken care of, and I'm glad to see the emergence of these new glasses.
