CTOnews.com, June 10, Friday (June 9), White House spokesman Robin Patterson said that as long as the Tesla charging station meets the CCS standard, it will receive federal subsidies.

Under the Infrastructure Act, the US federal government will invest $7.5 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 53.4 billion yuan) to build a national electric vehicle charging network.

Earlier, the US automakers Ford and General Motors respectively announced that they would adopt Tesla's charging mode, the North American charging Standard (NACS). The move disrupted the charging industry, and it looked as if the CCS interface was expected to become mainstream with the help of federal subsidies.

Patterson said the government's goal is to make every publicly funded charger available to every car. "more drivers' access to more high-quality charging facilities-including Tesla super charging piles-is a step forward."

Most global automakers use CCS standards in the United States, including Volkswagen, Hyundai and Kia. Tesla is already testing the use of the CCS interface so that non-Tesla vehicles can also use its super charging piles. Last week, the Biden government updated its guidelines, saying that people can receive federal subsidies to buy proprietary adapters if they are compatible with fixed-installation CCS interfaces, which may make Tesla's adapters eligible for subsidies.

Tesla has more than 17700 quick charging piles in North America, far more than all the CCS standard charging piles combined. However, most of Tesla's charging piles in North America are currently only suitable for NACS.

With the three major US automakers announcing a partnership, more than 60 per cent of cars in the US electric vehicle market will be able to use Tesla's charging network in the future.
