CTOnews.com, June 9, AI startup Cohere said on June 8 that it had received a new round of financing of $270 million (CTOnews.com Note: about 1.925 billion yuan), led by Nvidia, Oracle and Salesforce.

Cohere is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and its core business is similar to Microsoft-supported OpenAI, focusing on building AI models for enterprise customers. Cohere did not disclose its valuation, but people familiar with the matter said it was valued at $2.2 billion (currently about 15.686 billion yuan).

Cohere, founded by Google's former top AI researchers, aims to become a new independent supplier that allows companies to use models that are unrelated to other cloud providers such as Microsoft.

"We are an independent company and we do not and will not accept huge investments from a particular company, especially from a single cloud provider, because it limits us from doing the right thing for our business and our customers," Martin Kon, president of Cohere, said in an interview.

Martin also said the financing will be used to buy new computing resources and recruit talent.

Martin declined to comment when Reuters reported earlier this year that Cohere was seeking a new round of hundreds of millions of dollars in financing and that the start-up could be valued at $6 billion (currently about 42.78 billion yuan).
