CTOnews.com, June 8 (Xinhua)-- Apple and Epic Games today asked the U.S. appeals court to reconsider its April antitrust decision, which could force Apple to change the way it pays in its App Store.

Apple and Epic challenged the decision of a collegial panel of three judges from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco in their respective court documents.

Lawyers for both companies said the panel should rehear the case, or the court should convene "all the judges" as a panel of 11 judges to reconsider the dispute.

In April, the judge finally upheld an order of the California Federal Court in the Epic lawsuit in 2021. The judge ruled that Apple violated California's unfair competition law, but not the antitrust rules of the United States. Apple's new document questions the nationwide ban, saying it is "good for competition and does not violate anti-monopoly laws".

It is reported that Epic Games began a long legal battle with Apple over the rules of App Store, triggered by the game "Fortnite" in 2020.

The US court announced the verdict in 2021, finding that Apple did not violate the anti-monopoly law and was not a monopolist. Epic Games was not convinced and chose to appeal immediately, saying that the original trial court "got the wrong answer" and "made a number of legal mistakes".

CTOnews.com inquiry learned that in April this year, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected Epic Games's complaint that App Store was not allowed to run third-party app stores on suspicion of violating the anti-monopoly law and upheld the original verdict.
