CTOnews.com, June 8 (Xinhua)-- scientists at the University of Washington School of Medicine have developed a camera called NaviCam capsule. The camera can be controlled by a joystick and is expected to replace endoscopes that can easily make patients feel uncomfortable.

▲ source: professor Andrew Melzer of the AnX Robotica R & D team says traditional endoscopy is a painful process for patients, which may require anesthesia and can be expensive. The capsule camera controlled by magnetic technology only needs to be taken by the patient, and the doctor uses the remote pole to control the camera to examine the patient's body. This invention is expected to replace endoscope and become a rapid method for screening upper gastrointestinal problems such as ulcers and gastric cancer.

▲ source: AnX Robotica University of Washington School of Medicine says NaviCam is still in the testing stage, but the results are encouraging. According to reports, in an experiment involving 40 people, scientists can accurately control the capsule to reach all major parts of the abdomen, with a visual success rate of up to 95%. As a control, the subjects also underwent a traditional endoscopy to confirm that the capsule camera did not miss the lesion.

▲ source: AnX RoboticaCTOnews.com noted that Professor Andrew Melzer pointed out that the research team would then bring capsule cameras into large-scale experiments with more people. The product will be operated commercially by AnX Robotica. If all goes well, the capsule camera will undoubtedly ease the pain of more people undergoing endoscopic examinations.
