CTOnews.com June 8 news, Nvidia is optimistic about the prospect of generative AI applications. Huang Renxun said that the H100 is manufactured exclusively by TSMC and does not consider adding a second wafer foundry.

But TSMC's business was not affected by Nvidia's optimistic statement, and company executives said they would not increase capital spending this year.

At the annual shareholders' meeting on Tuesday, TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin, who had forecast capital expenditure of $32 to $36 billion this year, said that this year's capital expenditure would be implemented in accordance with the lower limit of $32 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 228.16 billion yuan).

By contrast, TSMC's capital expenditure was $36 billion in 2022 and cut its capital budget by 10 per cent last year.

Liu Deyin, chairman of TSMC, said: "TSMC is going through a period of inventory adjustment, but customers are reducing inventory and we are seeing a recovery in some end markets. Sales may decline slightly this year, but we expect strong growth from next year."

The forecast shows that, like the semiconductor industry as a whole, leading TSMC remains cautious about investment in the face of a sharp drop in consumer spending and a weaker-than-expected economic recovery.
