Micron today announced the start of volume production of 4800MT/s 96GB high-capacity DDR5 RDIMMs, which have twice the bandwidth of DDR4 memory and are fully compliant with fourth generation AMD EPYC processors.

RDIMM adds a register to the memory bank for transmission, which is located between the CPU and the memory particle, both reducing the distance of parallel transmission and ensuring the effectiveness of parallel transmission. Because of the high register efficiency, RDIMMs are easier to increase in capacity and frequency than UDIMMs.

With next-generation memory technology, this memory enhances support for artificial intelligence (AI) and in-memory database workloads, and addresses the high cost of chip stacking while avoiding increased latency.

In addition, Micron's 96 GB DDR5 module provides support for AMD's Supermicro 8125GS system for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and deep learning, as well as industrial server workloads.
