CTOnews.com June 7, Microsoft has released an updated ISO installation image for Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 10 22H2, incorporating the May "Tuesday patch".

Microsoft has now released a new Defender anti-malware update package for Windows operating system installation images, namely for Windows Image format (WIM) and VHD (Virtual hard disk) format.

This update supports Windows 11, all versions of Windows 10, and Windows Servers 2016 and 2019, and this update package is required because the Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries.

In addition to better security, these updates can provide improved performance benefits in some cases.

Microsoft is providing the latest security definition for Windows images with security intelligence update version 1.389.44.0, and the Defender package version is 20230503.1. In the support documentation describing the new update, Microsoft explained:

"due to Microsoft Defender protection vulnerabilities, newly installed Windows deployments may make the system vulnerable. This is because the operating system installation image may contain outdated anti-malware binaries.

[..] Devices that use Windows built-in antivirus software or other security solutions can benefit from these updates.

[..] This article introduces the anti-malware update package for Microsoft Defender in the operating system installation image (WIM and VHD files). This feature supports the following operating system installation images:

Windows 11

Windows 10 (Enterprise, Professional, and Home Edition)

Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2016

Defender package version: 20230604.1

The package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signed versions in the operating system installation image to the following versions:

Platform version: 4.18.23050.3

Engine version: 1.1.23050.3

Security intelligence version: 1.391.476.0 "
