Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com June 7 news, according to foreign media KoreaWave reported that the South Korean Internet is currently popular on the boycott of AI online cartoon movement. On Challenge Comics, an open comic creation platform owned by Naver, there were a large number of posts about "boycotting AI online comics" from June 2 to 3, some of which received so many hits that they even made it into the top 10.

Boycotters generally believe that AI lacks originality, so every picture created by AI may be suspected of infringing the original work. The posters also said that they are not opposed to the development of technology, but are opposed to unauthorized plagiarism, reproduction, scaling of images, theft of pictures, infringement of portrait rights and illegal commercialization.

Korean media believe that behind this boycott is the endless emergence of AI works similar to the style of real-life painters. In addition, some AI acquired copyrighted online images without permission in the development process, which also caused an uproar in public opinion.

The Naver Webtoon platform, which runs Challenge Comics, had previously added a clause to its user agreement requiring registered members to agree to the platform and other Naver services to use their original works for research purposes. It is this provision that has raised concerns that the original content posted by users on Challenge Comics may be used for AI learning.

A person in charge of Naver Webtoon said: "at present, we do not use Challenge Comics for AI learning, nor have we discussed this issue. If we will use it in the future, we will find ways to ensure that there is no infringement."

As generative AI and copyright issues are still in a legal gray area, the storm of resistance to AI by creative industries, including web comics, is likely to continue for some time.

CTOnews.com previously reported that the Japanese Culture Agency has recently released an explanatory document on the relationship between AI and copyright, which has sparked a heated debate in Japan. But the document is still relatively sketchy, and the Japanese government has said it will discuss the issue more deeply with all sectors of the community in the future.
